Il Professor Stanislaw Chojnacki ha fondato nel 1952 l’University College Museum di Addis Abeba (poi Museum and Art Gallery of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies) che ha diretto sino al 1963. Dal 1963 al 1975 è stato co-direttore del Journal of Ethiopian Studies. Nel 1966 ha dato origine al Committee for the Preservation of Old Ethiopian Paintings, diventato nel 1967 The Society of Friends of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies. Fra gli scritti del Professor Chojnacki si contano numerose pubblicazioni riguardanti l’arte etiopica e, fra gli altri, il saggio “Major Themes in Ethiopian Paintings: Indigenous Developments, the Influence of Foreign Models and Their Adaptation” (Athiopistische Forschungen, 1983). Nel 1999, il Professore ha redatto la prefazione al libro di Mario Di Salvo “Chiese d’Etiopia. Il Monastero di Narga Sellase”. Nel 2000 ha pubblicato “Ethiopian Icons – Catalogue of the collections of the Institute of Ethiopian studies, Addis Ababa University” e nel 2006 “Ethiopian Crosses. A Cultural History and Chronology”.
